The Rockport-Fulton High School (RFHS) Pirate basketball team could not overcome a second half surge by the Beeville Trojans, resulting in a 45-43 loss at Beeville.
RFHS’ district record moves to 3-5 and their overall record 9-12.
The loss keeps RFHS in fifth place in District 26-4A standings.
The Pirates began the game with the lead, ahead of Beeville 11-9 after the first quarter.
Both teams played a tight second quarter and Beeville inched closer to RFHS at the half, trailing 16-15.
In the third quarter, Beeville exploded for 18 points and put RFHS in a big hole. While RFHS struggled to get anything going offensively, Beeville hit three 3-point field goal’s (FG) to exaggerate its lead. RFHS eventually put some points on the board but trailed by nine to end the quarter.
In the fourth quarter, RFHS started out swinging and quickly cut Beeville’s lead down to four. Joshua Hadley hit two 3-point FG’s along with one 3-point FG from Ace Seibert. Beeville, however, continued to hit big shots and kept the Pirates from retaking the lead again. A 17-point performance in the fourth quarter was not enough to catch the Trojans, resulting in a 45-43 loss.
J. Hadley led RFHS in scoring with 17 points.
Mathew Vasquez followed with nine points and Josh Lee scored eight points.
RFHS played Ingleside Tuesday, Feb. 2. Their next game is 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 5 at Sinton.
