The Rockport-Fulton High School (RFHS) Pirate basketball team started the second half of the district season with another win over the Ingleside Mustangs 54-40 Tuesday, Jan. 28 in Ingleside.

RFHS’ district record improves to 8-0 with an overall record of 22-6.

The Pirates were down once early in the game after a 4-0 run by Ingleside. Tyson Cox then went on a big run to help RFHS grab the lead and hold it the rest of the way.

In the first quarter, Ingleside initially took a 4-0 lead until Cox got the game going for RFHS inside the paint and helped take the lead. The Pirate defense allowed only one more basket the remainder of the quarter as RFHS took a 14-6 lead.

In the second, things got physical as both teams committed numerous fouls. RFHS got into foul trouble against Ingleside but sustained its lead as Konnor McMahon and Cox hit one 3-point field goal (FG) each to keep RFHS afloat. The Pirates went into the half leading 25-18.

In the third, RFHS came out on fire with back-to-back 3-point FG’s by Chance Bates and Cox. The RFHS defense was also shutting down Ingleside, forcing numerous turnovers and keeping the post clean. McMahon also added a 3-point FG while Kaden Harder finished on two layups. RFHS built its lead 43-29 heading into the fourth.

In the fourth, RFHS sustained its lead as McMahon finished off Ingleside with big drives to the basket, scoring seven points. Ingleside tried to get back in the game as they continued to pressure RFHS inside. However, the lead was too steep for Ingleside to come back from and lost 54-40.

Cox led RFHS in scoring with 23 points.

McMahon scored 18 points and Harder finished with six points

RFHS played West Oso Friday, Jan. 28. They play again at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4 at Orange Grove.
