The Rockport-Fulton High School (RFHS) Lady Pirate basketball team trailed right behind the Sinton Lady Pirates throughout the game but could not do enough to overtake them in a 43-39 loss Friday, Feb. 7 at Sinton.
RFHS’ district record moves to 5-8 and its overall record 15-17.
Even though RFHS is out of the playoff hunt, they presented Sinton with a tough challenge at home and did not go down easy.
Just before the half, Sinton looked as though they were going to pull away in the second quarter after hitting a series of shots. However, Kaylee Howell finished the quarter strong and put RFHS in position to catch Sinton in the third quarter.
In the third, RFHS shut down Sinton defensively and put the game to within five with buckets by Howell and a three-point field goal by Jordan Malone.
Entering the fourth quarter trailing 28-23, RFHS had a big fourth quarter with Malone and Howell leading the way offensively. Howell scored six points while Malone went 3-3 from the line and scored eight points altogether in the quarter. Nonetheless, Sinton also had an explosive quarter offensively and was able to sustain its lead before RFHS could take it away. Seemingly running out of time in the event of a possible comeback, RFHS fell short 43-39.
Malone led RFHS in scoring with 16 points.
Howell scored 15 points and Lilith Solis finished with eight points.
RFHS played its last game of the season Tuesday Feb. 11 at home against Beeville.
