The Rockport-Fulton High School (RFHS) Lady Pirate basketball team defeated the West Oso Lady Bears 58-25 behind a strong performance in the paint Tuesday, Jan. 4 at West Oso.

The Lady Pirates continue their undefeated district run of 3-0 with a 20-6 overall record.

The #19 ranked Texas Association of Basketball Coaches’ (TABC) Lady Bears had no answer for the interior presence of the #18 ranked TABC’ Lady Pirates.

Head coach Morgan Hale said after a couple good weeks of practice, she knew Lilith Solis was going to “go off” at some point.

“We knew this was eventually going to happen, where she would just break that ceiling and go off,” said Hale. “It starts for her on the boards and on the defensive end. When she starts getting those and gets into a rhythm, she’s pretty much unstoppable.”

The combination of Solis and Kaylee Howell inside overwhelmed the Lady Bears.

Solis was automatic in the first quarter with 10 points. Howell took over in the second quarter with seven points and put RFHS in a good position at the half leading 32-10.

Howell and Solis continued to do damage in the second half, scoring 16 more points combined. Jordan Malone followed them with six second-half points.

Solis led RFHS in scoring with 21 points.

Solis said there was extra motivation to play well against West Oso, being that their head coach trained her during the summer.

“He (Quincy Sims) coached me all summer and I kind of wanted to show out (against him) tonight,” said Solis. “At practice, we’ve been talking about being able to score and work around not having Kaylee or Jordan (in the event of) and tonight seemed like a really good opportunity to bust out of my shell.”

Howell followed with 18 points.

Malone scored nine points.

RFHS played Beeville Friday, Jan 7. Their next game is 6:15 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 11 at Ingleside.
