Take that!

Kaylie Skinner launches a big hit across the net and in between two Kingsville frontcourt players.

The Rockport-Fulton High School (RFHS) Lady Pirate volleyball team defeated the Kingsville Lady Brahmas in three sets Friday, Sept. 10 in Kingsville.

The Lady Pirates finish the non-district season 16-6.

RFHS defeated Kingsville 25-15, 27-25, and 25-8.

After winning set one by 10 points, RFHS fell behind deep in set two and rallied at the very end to steal the set away from Kingsville.

Trailing 16-7 at one point, RFHS Head Volleyball Coach Mark Jeffery said the team got back to playing their style to make the comeback.

“We stopped worrying so much about the other team and started playing more selflessly,” said Jeffery.

RFHS fought all the way back to make the score 24-21 before winning three straight rallies to tie it at 24-all. Kaylee Howell was subbed in late and led a late charge offensively to tie the game up.

With the game tied at 25-25, Howell recorded a kill and forced an error on a ball dumped over the net to help RFHS take set two 27-25.

RFHS then handily won set three 25-8.

Sophia Byrom and Messiah Hernandez led RFHS offensively with 14 assists each.

Howell led RFHS in kills with nine. Kiley Kopp and Lauren Moore followed with eight kills each.

Kaylie Skinner led RFHS in aces with four.

Payton Martinez led RFHS defensively with 23 digs. Moore followed with nine.

Alana Garcia and Howell led RFHS in blocks with two each.

RFHS began the district season Tuesday, Sept. 14 at home against Calhoun.
