Mikayla Molina gets low for a successful one-handed dig.

The Rockport-Fulton High School (RFHS) Lady Pirate volleyball team defeated the Orange Grove (OG) Lady Bulldogs in three sets, 25-20, 25-13, and 25-22, Friday, Sept. 13 at home.

RFHS’ overall record moves to 17-11 and 2-0 in district play.

RFHS is tied with Sinton and Robstown atop the District 31-4A standings.

In set one, RFHS took an early 7-3 lead with strong play by Kaylee Howell and Molly Frost. OG made a run to retake the lead and both teams traded rallies for the remainder of the set. RFHS finished on a strong run offensively in the latter part of the set to go up 24-19 before an OG timeout was called. RFHS won the set shortly after 25-20.

In set two, the Lady Pirates got out to a 10-point lead early and sustained it through the remainder of the set. Strong serves by Molly Frost and backcourt play by Emily Resendez and Abby Saegert kept OG behind.

RFHS continued its strong play defensively with digs by Payton Martinez and Mikayla Molina that helped keep RFHS on top to take set two 25-13.

In set three, OG opened with a small lead but RFHS roared back to go up 10-8. Both teams battled back and forth and OG took a 20-18 lead before an RFHS timeout was taken.

After the timeout, RFHS fought back to take the lead over OG and took the set on a tip from Howell that was misplayed by OG 25-22.

Howell led RFHS in kills with 11. Allie Manson followed with eight kills. Molly Frost and Faith Ngo recorded seven.

Frost led RFHS in assists with 16. Molina followed with 14.
