The Rockport-Fulton High School (RFHS) Pirate soccer team rebounded from two straight losses to end the district season with an 8-4 victory over Palacios Friday, March 19 at home.
The Pirates finish the regular season with a district record of 7-3 and an overall record of 10-7.
RFHS Head Boys Soccer Coach Mike Elkins said the team had an excellent rebound game after two straight “ugly” losses as they enter the playoffs as the second seed in District 28-4A.
“This might have been the biggest victory we had this year for the fact that we lost two in a row. There was self-doubt, you got some bickering going on and you lose your team cohesiveness,” said Elkins. “As far as getting back on track, understanding how we play, and what we can accomplish when we put our mind to it, it was a great win for us.”
Against Palacios, RFHS had two players finish the game with a hat trick.
Cristobal Deleon led RFHS with four goals.
Richard Lizcano scored three goals.
Alex Ruiz scored one goal.
RFHS will advance to the Bi-District round of the playoffs and play Somerset at 7 p.m. Friday, March 26 in Beeville.
