Big return

Kaylee Howell winds up for a huge return across the net for a kill.

The Rockport-Fulton High School (RFHS) Lady Pirate volleyball team jumped ahead of the Ingleside Lady Mustangs for a quick three set victory Friday, Sept. 17 at Ingleside.

The Lady Pirates improve their district record to 2-0 and overall record to 18-6.

RFHS defeated Ingleside in three sets, 25-4, 25-17, and 25-4.

Taking advantage of some defensive miscues by Ingleside, RFHS was efficient in serving against the Lady Mustangs. Combined, the team netted 21 aces. Kaylie Skinner accounted for 12.

“Serving was phenomenal today,” said RFHS Head Volleyball Coach Mark Jeffery. “She (Skinner) leads the team in aces and its not even close. Her serve was really keeping Ingleside off balance.

“We just limited our mistakes. We really made them earn points.”

Between Skinner and Lauren Moore serving, RFHS jumped out to a big lead in set one ran away with it 25-4.

Set two is Ingleside gave RFHS the most trouble, cleaning up some of their defensive miscues and making it a contest for most of the set. However, RFHS pulled away in the latter part of the set 25-17.

In set three, RFHS pulled away swiftly as they did in set one with an efficient service game. RFHS toppled Ingleside for the win 25-4.

Skinner led RFHS in aces with 12. Moore finished with six.

Kaylee Howell led RFHS in kills with 12. Kiley Kopp and Moore followed with eight each.

Sophia Byrom and Mikayla Molina led RFHS in sets with 13 each.

Payton Martinez led RFHS in digs with 14. Moore followed with eight.

Alana Garcia led RFHS in blocks with three. Howell and Moore followed with two each.

RFHS played West Oso Tuesday, Sept. 21. Their next game is 4:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24 at Beeville.
