The Rockport-Fulton High School (RFHS) Lady Pirate softball team (#1) formally celebrated their 26-4A District Championship after completing a perfect 12-0 district season, defeating Sinton 4-0 Monday, April 26.
The Lady Pirates have not won a district title outright since 1995; the program’s inaugural season.
Their 12-0 undefeated district season is a first in the history of the program. RFHS’ 1995 district championship was won with a 10-2 district record.
RFHS received their District 26-4A Championship trophy and celebrated with friends, family, and fireworks following their win over Sinton.
“It was have great to have so much support out here,” said RFHS Head Softball Coach Melissa Reyes. “We saw middle school kids out here, high school, staff, people from the community, parents; just to have this outpouring of support meant a whole lot to the girls.
“The abundance of support we’ve had has been amazing and to be able to get the undefeated district season here at home was very, very special.”
RFHS pitcher Siarah Galvan put together another shutdown performance on the mound. She allowed 0 runs, three hits, and struck out 13 batters.
RFHS scored their first run in the fourth inning off of a base hit from Alanah Garcia.
Leading 1-0, RFHS scored their next three runs in the fifth inning using a combination of small ball and big hits from Mikey Dominguez, Payton Martinez and Maddie Mann.
Krystal Kutach went 2-3 and led RFHS in base appearances.
Galvan and Garcia had an RBI each.
Emma Groseclose, Martinez, Mann, and Kymberlyn Gerloff each went 1-3.
RFHS played the first of a three-round series in the bi-district playoffs against Brazosport and won 14-0 Thursday, April 29 in Tidehaven.
Mann led RFHS offensively against Brazosport going 3-4, including one homerun and six RBI’s.
RFHS played game two against Brazosport Friday, April 30.
