The Rockport-Fulton High School (RFHS) Lady Pirate basketball team held the Kingsville Lady Brahmas to 0 points through the first half in a 79-11 win Tuesday, Jan. 21 at home.
RFHS’ district record moves to 4-4 and its overall record 14-13.
The Lady Pirates shunned Kingsville in a dominant performance. While holding the Lady Brahmas to 0 points through the first half of play, RFHS also had two players score at least 20 points, Lilith Solis and Kaylee Howell.
In the first quarter, Howell provided the spark offensively and helped put the Lady Pirates up big. Howell scored 10 points to give RFHS a 20-0 lead.
In the second, RFHS put forth a team effort to increase its lead and stump the Lady Brahmas on defense. Molly Frost, Howell, and Solis scored at least four points each. Kingsville struggled mightily against the interior play of RFHS on both ends of the court. RFHS went into the half with a comfortable 37-0 lead.
In the third, as RFHS continued to increase its lead, Kingsville scored its first bucket of the game with five minutes left in the quarter. Solis also tallied another eight points. Jordan Malone closed out the quarter hitting a 3-point field goal to extend RFHS’ lead 56-5.
In the fourth, Kingsville had its best offensive output of the game with 11 points. However, RFHS’ lead was safe; holding a 51-point lead to start the quarter and scoring another 23 points on top of it. Solis capped off her dynamic night with 11 more points. Audra Jones also netted six points in the quarter to give RFHS a 79-11 victory.
Solis led RFHS in scoring with 27 points.
Howell scored 20 points and Molly Frost finished with 10 points.
RFHS played Robstown Friday, Jan. 24. They play again at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28 at Ingleside.
