The Rockport-Fulton High School (RFHS) Lady Pirate softball team struggled offensively following the first inning against the Sinton Lady Pirates and lost 7-1 Tuesday, March 19 in Sinton.
RFHS is now 3-3 in district and 13-5 overall.
Siarah Galvan was the starting pitcher for RFHS and threw nine strikeouts and led the team offensively with two hits and one run batted in.
In the first inning, RFHS struck first with a base hit to right field by Galvan that brought in Maddie Mann from first.
However, in the bottom of the first, Sinton also had their best inning of the game offensively. With Sinton able to get on base after one hit and multiple walks, RFHS was in a tight spot with the bases loaded. The following batter in Sinton’s lineup unfortunately made solid contact on one of Galvan’s pitches and drove the ball over the centerfield wall for a grand slam.
The home run gave Sinton a 5-1 lead into the second inning and RFHS was unable to score the rest of the game, losing 7-1.
RFHS played Beeville Friday, March 22. Their next game is 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 26 at Kingsville.
