Kaylee Howell eludes three Calhoun defenders in a move to get inside the

The Rockport-Fulton High School (RFHS) Lady Pirate basketball team took care of business in a 58-27 district opening victory versus the Calhoun Sandies Friday, Dec. 17 at home.

The Lady Pirates are now 17-6 overall.

RFHS got out to a hot start and maintained a lead throughout the game.

The Lady Pirates took an 8-0 lead by forcing turnovers and big shots from Jordan Malone and Kaylee Howell.

RFHS Head Girls Basketball Coach Morgan Hale said the team went into a lull midway through the game and attributed that to injuries and illnesses throughout the week.

“We kind of got gassed quicker than normal,” said Hale. “We talk a lot about even when we’re flat, when we’re not feeling well, we still have to overcome that with high energy at all times.”

Howell led RFHS in scoring with 26 points. She also went 9-11 from the line.

Malone followed with 14 points.

Solis scored 11 points.

RFHS played Miller Tuesday, Dec. 21. They will take a break over the Christmas holiday and play again at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 30 at Calallen.
