Area champs

The RFHS Lady Pirate track team won its second consecutive area meet since 2019 Wednesday, April 14 at home. The Lady Pirates will compete in the Region IV meet next weekend at Texas A&M University – Kingsville.

The Rockport-Fulton High School varsity (RFHS) Pirate and Lady Pirate track teams competed in a Region IV Area meet with districts 25-4A and 26-4A Wednesday, April 14 at home.

The Lady Pirates won their second straight area meet since 2019 (not including 2020, COVID-19) with 106 points. Sinton finished in second place with 70 points and Port Lavaca finished third with 59 points.

The Pirates defeated last week’s District 26-4A champion Ingleside in the area meet, but finished second overall once again. RFHS finished with 84 points. Area Champion Needville finished with 123.5 points. Stafford finished third with 82 points and Ingleside finished fourth with 68 points.

Varsity Lady Pirates placing in the top four and advancing to the Region IV meet are as follows:

Mikey Dominguez placed first in pole vault with a height of 12’.

Cailey Ramaker placed first in the long jump with a leap of 16’7.5”. She also placed second in the 200 meter dash with a time of 25.9 and she placed second in the triple jump with a distance of 35’9”.

Riley Parker placed fourth in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:25.

Kaylee Howell placed first in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 48.18. She also placed first in high jump with a height of 5’2” and placed third in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 16.26.

The RFHS 400 meter relay team of Juliana Villarreal, Kiley Kopp, M. Dominguez, and C. Ramaker placed second with a time of 50.31.

The RFHS 800 meter relay team of Faith Ngo, Kyleigh Karl, M. Dominguez, and M. Molina placed third with a time of 1:48.41.

The RFHS 1600 meter relay team of R. Parker, Emma Groseclose, Selena Cherry, and K. Howell placed fourth with a time of 4:17.94.

Varsity Pirates placing in the top four and advancing to the Region IV meet are as follows:

Augustus Byrom placed third in the 400 meter dash with a time of 51.58.

George Marable placed first in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 39.89. He also placed third in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 15.68.

Rickey Franks placed fourth in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 42.16.

The RFHS 800 meter relay team of R. Franks, Cade Leal, Cristobal Deleon, and John Chupe placed third with a time of 1:32.13.

The RFHS 1600 meter relay team of A. Byrom, C. Deleon, Ryan Wells, and G. Marable placed second with a time of 3:30.71.

Josh Lee placed second in the high jump with a clearance of 5’10”.

LeRoy Burke placed third in pole vault with a clearance of 11’6”.

Payton McAlister placed second in discus with a throw of 146’8.5”.

Region qualifiers will compete in the Region IV track meet Friday and Saturday, April 23-24 at Texas A&M University - Kingsville.
