The Rockport-Fulton High School (RFHS) Lady Pirate volleyball team defeated the West Oso Lady Bears in three sets after taking the first set into extra rallies Friday, Oct. 22 at West Oso.

The Lady Pirates defeated Oso 28-26, 25-16, and 25-12.

RFHS’ overall record improves to 26-7 with a 10-1 district record.

The Lady Pirates will play their final district game of the season Tuesday, Oct. 26 against Beeville. However, a district champion has yet to be determined.

With Calhoun and RFHS splitting wins at home, both teams are 10-1 heading into the final district game of the season. Calhoun will play Sinton Tuesday, Oct. 26. If Calhoun defeats Sinton, they remain tied with RFHS for first place in District 26-4A standings. As of press deadline Monday, Oct. 25, it is unknown if they will play an additional game to decide a champion, provided that Calhoun defeat Sinton.

Against West Oso, RFHS struggled a bit in set one, allowing Oso to take the game into extra rallies. Nevertheless, RFHS won the set 28-26, but RFHS Head Volleyball Coach Mark Jeffery said he thought the team came out flat against an opponent that can make you pay for it.

In set two, and beyond, RFHS took over. Jeffery said the girls responded well after getting a scare from Oso and took care of business the rest of the way.

Kaylee Howell led RFHS offensively with 19 kills.

Lauren Moore followed with 10 kills and Alana Garcia had nine kills.

Mikayla Molina led RFHS in assists with 25.

Sophia Byrom followed with 19 assists.

Kaylie Skinner and Moore led RFHS in aces with two each.

Payton Martinez led RFHS defensively with 26 digs.

Moore followed with 16 digs and Byrom finished with 11 digs.

Howell led RFHS in blocks with four.

Moore, Skinner, Garcia, and Messiah Hernandez followed with one block each.
