The Rockport-Fulton High School (RFHS) Pirate baseball team fell one run short of advancing further in the Best of the Bay tournament Saturday, March 6 at home.
In pool play, RFHS played Incarnate Word Thursday, March 4, along with Orange Grove and Benavides Friday, March 5.
RFHS tied Incarnate Word 1-1 after reaching a game time limit of two hours, but was declared the winner for having the most players reach third base.
Luke Muirhead pitched all six innings. He allowed one earned run and struck out eight batters.
Isaiah Elizondo led RFHS at the plate going 2-3.
RFHS lost to Orange Grove 7-0 in their early game Friday, March 5.
Ean McPherson pitched three innings and allowed six earned runs and struck out two.
Ace Seibert relieved McPherson and pitched the last three innings. He allowed one earned run and struck out two.
Muirhead led RFHS at the plate going 2-3.
Javier Vela also went 1-2.
RFHS defeated Benavides 9-2 in their late game Friday, March 5.
Cole Chapman pitched three innings and allowed two earned runs and struck out three.
Vela relieved Chapman and pitched one inning, striking out two batters.
Muirhead led RFHS at the plate going 3-4.
I. Elizondo went 2-2 at the plate with one RBI.
Seibert and McPherson each brought in two runners.
On single elimination day Saturday, March 6, RFHS lost their first game to Edna 5-4 and were eliminated from the tournament.
Trent Upham pitched four innings. He allowed four earned runs and struck out four.
Sam Mayes relieved Upham and pitched one inning. He struck out two and allowed one earned run.
McPherson led RFHS at the plate going 2-3 with one RBI.
Seibert was 2-4 at bat.
Devan Phillips was 1-1 at the plate with two RBI’s.
I. Elizondo was named All-Tournament upon RFHS’ elimination.
RFHS will continue tournament play this weekend in Goliad with four games scheduled from Thursday, March 11 to Friday, March 12.
