The Rockport-Fulton High School (RFHS) Lady Pirate basketball team took sole possession of first place in District 26-4A following their 43-35 victory over the Beeville Lady Trojans Tuesday, Jan. 5 at Beeville.
The Lady Pirates are in first place in District 26-4A standings with a 4-0 record. Along with improving their overall record to 14-4, RFHS extended its winning streak to 11 games.
RFHS Head Girls Basketball Morgan Hale said the victory was a huge stepping-stone for her team as they continue their remarkable run.
“Beeville’s good. I give all the credit to them and their coach, but I can’t praise our girls enough tonight, from the first to the last player on our bench,” said Hale. “They were in sync, in tune, they lifted each other up, they went to battle for each other, and it showed.”
At the time of their showdown, Beeville was ranked as one of the top 25 4A teams in Texas at 18th, according to the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches poll.
As both teams went blow for blow offensively in the first half, a strong defensive performance in the second half by RFHS shut out the Lady Trojans for long periods of time.
“Jordan Malone stepped up and played huge defensively for us. That’s something we challenged her with this season,” said Hale. “I believe that set the tone for the rest of our team.”
Hale also praised her bigs for their strong performance inside.
“Kaylee and Audra rebounded their butts off. They were fantastic on the boards,” said Hale.
Kaylee Howell led RFHS offensively with 19 points and went 7-10 from the line.
Malone and Lilith Solis scored nine points each.
RFHS played another district game Friday, Jan. 8 against Ingleside. Their next game is 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 12 at Sinton.
