Nice catch

Eight-year-old Grant Wimmer of Houston holds his redfish with a smile.

Those are probably not the words Grant Wimmer, 8, of Houston was thinking about when his father and family friends booked a trip with Captain Aerich Oliver and Rockport Paradise Outfitters (361) 205-9414. However, they headed out looking for A school – of redfish! Grant had never hooked up with a redfish, and class was now in!

Capt. Aerich made short work of catching some fresh mullet to use for bait, and they were off looking for those telltale signs that show redfish are nearby. Birds working a certain area, big v-wakes pushing off from shore, mud boils and maybe even red-tinted tails sticking up in the air. Capt. Aerich knows what to look for and even where to go if you can see nothing about the surface of the water. Having navigated these waters since almost birth, he knows where the drop offs are. He knows reefs, oyster beds, deep and shallow cuts, and mud islands with mangroves that offer structure for bait and the game fish that follow them. That’s what they found success at today.
