The Rockport-Fulton High School (RFHS) Lady Pirate soccer team fought for 100 minutes and came away with a 2-1 victory over Beeville Tuesday, March 23 in Ingleside.

In the three days prior to their game with Beeville, RFHS played their final two district games at Palacios Saturday, March 20 and at Yoakum Monday, March 22. RFHS won both games with scores of 5-0 and 6-0, respectively.

Beeville and RFHS finished the district season as Co-District Champions of District 28-4A. However, both teams agreed to a tune up game to decide who would get the #1 and # 2 seeds into the playoffs. RFHS earned the #1 seed.

“It’s a rivalry game, we knew it was going to be competitive and I think it very much lived up to that,” said RFHS Head Girls Soccer Coach Mitchell Lynch. “We needed this kind of preparation for the playoffs. This helps both teams be able to represent our district well by getting a gritty, competitive game in right before then.”

RFHS finished the regular season with a district record of 9-1 and an overall record of 15-4.

In the first half, Beeville took an early 1-0 lead over RFHS and held the lead for some time. But in the 30th minute, Naveya Davila gave a through ball to Kiley Kopp and Kopp took it herself near the goal area and finished on a strike just inside the keeper to tie it up at 1-all.

In the second half, RFHS created numerous scoring opportunities but could not find the back of the net. RFHS held possession for most of the half but key stops by the Beeville keeper prevented another RFHS goal before the 80th minute.

In extra time, the teams played two 10-minute halves.

Kopp, however, needed less than a minute to find the back of the net in the first period of extra time. Kopp went on a run past the Beeville defense in the 81st minute and snuck in her second goal to give RFHS its first lead of the game 2-1.

The Lady Pirates continued to dominate in time of possession and held the ball for the remainder of the first and second extra periods for the win.

The Lady Pirates played Somerset in the Bi-District round of the playoffs Saturday, March 27 in Beeville.
