The Rockport-Fulton High School (RFHS) Lady Pirate volleyball team defeated the Bishop Lady Badgers in three sets Tuesday, Sept. 7 at home.
The Lady Pirates won in three sets 25-22, 25-12, and 25-17.
RFHS’ overall record improves to 15-6.
RFHS has won two games in a row and is feeling confident as district play nears next week.
RFHS Head Volleyball Coach Mark Jeffery said the team has refined some things offensively and its paid big dividends in their last two victories.
In set one, the Lady Badgers hung with RFHS throughout the set as teams traded points unto the 20’s. With the score tight at 22-21, RFHS eventually pulled away, taking the set 25-22.
In set two, RFHS built up a lead early and kept their big lead for the remainder of the set. RFHS handily took set two 25-12.
In set three, RFHS got out in front again with a big lead and kept the Lady Badgers at bay. Bishop made a small rally late in the set, but RFHS’ kept its lead, winning 25-17.
Kaylee Howell led RFHS offensively with 13 kills. Kiley Kopp followed with 11 kills.
Mikayla Molina led RFHS with 17 assists. Sophia Byrom followed with 11 assists.
Lauren Moore led RFHS in aces with four. Jessica Schibi and Payton Martinez followed with three each.
Martinez led RFHS defensively with 26 digs. Moore followed with 11 digs.
Howell led RFHS in blocks with four. Alana Garcia followed with one block.
RFHS played its last non-district game of the season Friday, Sept. 10 at Kingsville.
Howell said she’s excited for the district season, starting Tuesday, Sept. 14.
“We’ve been doing a lot of hard work, very different from the past couple of seasons,” said Howell. “We’re ready to come out and show everybody Rockport’s here to play.”
Martinez said the team has been working hard in non-district play and is confident the team will do well.
“We’ve been really working on our mentality,” said Martinez. “I think we’re coming out on top. We’re going to be really great.”
RFHS opens the district season at home at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 14 against Calhoun.
