The Rockport-Fulton High School (RFHS) Pirate baseball team lost their first district game of the season 6-2 Tuesday, March 2 to the Calhoun Sandcrabs at home.

RFHS starts the district season 0-1 and 4-1 overall.

The Sandcrabs stunned the previously undefeated Pirates behind a lockdown performance on the mound from Calhoun.

Both teams opened the game with a run in the first inning. Ace Seibert hit a ground out to second, bringing Devan Phillips home from third. However, the Pirates were held scoreless for the next four innings.

In the third inning, an error at second base by RFHS and a Calhoun triple led to two more runs for the Sandccrabs. Calhoun held firm to a 3-1 lead until the sixth inning.

Calhoun scored two more runs in the sixth inning and put RFHS at a 5-1 deficit.

Javier Vela grounded out but brought in Carsen Flores to make it 5-2.

Calhoun scored once more in the top of the seventh off a triple before being retired. RFHS failed to score in the bottom of the seventh.

Flores pitched six innings, striking out nine and allowing three earned runs.

RFHS competed in a home tournament over the weekend and will return to district play at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 9 at Whataburger Field against Miller.
