Nice catch young man

Cooper Myers, eight, caught this black drum

There are many beautiful places to stay at in Rockport when you come to visit that run the gamut on price point. $22 a night would be hard to beat for a water view location, but it is available – at Goose Island State Park. Visitors and locals alike can enjoy wonderful times outdoors located at 202 S. Palmetto St. in Rockport, TX. Birding, boating, hiking, and of course fishing attracts about 200,000 visitors a year – yet rarely does it ever feel crowded on its 321.4 acres surrounded by St. Charles and Aransas Bay. Home of the “Big Tree” (estimated to be over 1,000 years old) and a 1,620-foot fishing pier, there is something for everyone here!

If overnight camping is not your style, you can still access this beautiful park for $5 a day (children 12 and under are free). This will give you access to fish (you do not need a fishing license to fish from shore or pier in a Texas state park), hike, and geocache, go boating, and observe and take photos of wildlife, especially birds. Swimming isn’t recommended here, as the shoreline has concrete bulkheads, oyster shells, mud flats and marsh grass. There is a regular boat launch and a kayak/canoe launch. You can bring your own kayak or canoe, or rent a kayak there. Rentals, including paddles and lifejackets, are available at a kiosk on a first-come, first-served basis.
