Michael Gonzalez reaches out to stop a penalty kick opportunity given to Beeville in the first half.

The Rockport-Fulton High School (RFHS) Pirate soccer team, coming off a big win over London Saturday, March 7, needed to win or tie at Beeville Monday, March 9 to claim the District 30-4A title. However, RFHS was unable to do so after surrendering three goals in the first 10 minutes of play, resulting in a 6-3 loss.

RFHS ends its regular season with an overall and district record of 6-2.

RFHS finished the District 30-4A season in second place with the loss to Beeville.

RFHS Head Boys Soccer Coach Mike Elkins said he was at a loss for words as his team allowed three goals in the first 10 minutes. Leading up to the Beeville game, RFHS had allowed only six goals throughout the entire district season.

While RFHS was able to get back in the game later in the first half trailing 3-2, Elkins said the initial shock of being down by three goals from the outset may have doomed the team as Beeville continued to stay ahead of RFHS until the final whistle.

Hugo Gutierrez scored two goals, including one on a penalty kick.

Axel Espino scored one goal.

RFHS will play La Vernia in the first round of the playoffs, however a time, date, and location has not been set. The game will be sometime between Thursday, March 26 and Saturday, March 28.
