The Rockport-Fulton High School (RFHS) Pirate baseball team took care of business against the Beeville Trojans with a seven run fourth inning to take them over the top 11-2 Friday, March 22 at home.
RFHS is now 3-3 in district and 11-7 overall.
Adam Muirhead was the winning pitcher and pitched six innings, throwing nine strikeouts with zero earned runs.
After allowing one run in the top of the first, RFHS brought in two runs in the bottom first.
With bases loaded, Tanor Waggoner hit a ground ball to shortstop and looked to be an easy throw home for an out. However, on the throw home, the Trojan catcher dropped the ball and allowed Clay Williams to score for the Pirates first run of the game. RFHS scored once more on a walk to end the inning.
In the third inning, A. Muirhead kept the bases clean while another walk brought in the Pirates third score to go up 3-1 into the third inning.
In the fourth, Beeville’s pitching problems began to boil over with pitchers struggling to find the zone against RFHS batters.
The Trojans began the fourth with a new pitcher and it did not bode well for Beeville as their new pitcher began the inning walking three straight batters to load the bases. After walking A. Loudermilk, the Pirates scored their first run of the inning off of walks.
After walking another batter, Beeville changed pitchers again to trail 6-1.
Chris Darnold was the first to get a hit off the new Beeville pitcher to bring on another run.
After a base hit by Waggoner to bring in another runner, Mayes scored one himself with Williams drawing the attention of Beeville’s infield on a steal at second to bring in Mayes from third.
Both teams scored once more in the fifth but Beeville could not score again for the rest of the game as RFHS took the win 11-2.
Waggoner led RFHS at bat with three runs batted in (RBI).
Mayes finished with two RBI’s and was walked three times.
Garrett Loudermilk was walked four times.
RFHS played Kingsville Tuesday, March 26. Their next game is 7 p.m. Friday, March 29 against Robstown.
