The Rockport-Fulton High School (RFHS) Lady Pirate volleyball team struggled in its match against the Sinton Lady Pirates, falling in three sets, 25-10, 25-14, and 25-18, Tuesday, Sept. 17 in Sinton.
RFHS’ overall record moves to 17-12 and 2-1 in district play.
In set one, Sinton started the game strong and built a lead over RFHS at 10-5. The RFHS backcourt struggled to stop Sinton’s attack on the net and surrendered the set 25-10.
In set two, Sinton got out to a dominant start and built up a 10-point lead at 11-1. RFHS played better offensively but Sinton continued to sustain its near 10-point lead over RFHS to eventually take the set 25-14.
In set three, RFHS adjusted and began to play better against the Sinton frontcourt. RFHS was also finding more gaps in the Sinton backcourt, beginning to find the cracks in the Sinton defense that had been playing very well in the first two sets. However, RFHS was still playing behind and could not catch Sinton in the end, losing 25-18.
Allie Manson led RFHS in kills with five. Kaylee Howell and Lauren Moore finished with three.
Mikayla Molina led RFHS in assists with eight. Molly Frost finished with six.
Howell led RFHS in blocks with five. Jackie Simmonds recorded three.
Molina led RFHS in digs with six. Frost finished with five.
RFHS played at Ingleside Friday, Sept. 20. Their next game is 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24 against Kingsville at home.
