Making up ground

The Rockport-Fulton High School (RFHS) Pirate and Lady Pirate track teams swept the Districts 31-32 Area track meet Wednesday, April 17 in La Feria.

The Pirates won the meet with 95 points, defeating second place La Feria with 87 points and third place Sinton with 75.

The Lady Pirates won the meet with 107 points, defeating second place Ingleside with 87 and third place Sinton with 64.

Pirates placing in the top four in their respective events are as follows:

Jacob Krupa placed third in the 3200 meter run with a time of 10:24.25. He also placed third in the 1600 meter run with a time of 4:49.21.

Carter McKee was the area champion in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 40.81. He also placed third in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 15.69 and was fifth in discus with a throw of 146’9”.

The Pirates 800 meter relay team of Baily Ngo-Nguyen, Will Smith, Sam Cheaney, and McKee placed second with a time of 1:32.02

Edgar Deleon placed third in the 400 meter dash with a time of 53.47.

Chevy Hull placed second in shot put with a throw of 47’10”. He also placed third in discus with a throw of 159’3.5”.

Cruz Estrada was the area champion in discus with a throw of 171’. His throw also set a new Area meet record.

Jacob Brake placed third in pole vault with a height of 12’6”.

Lady Pirates placing in the top four in their respective events are as follows:

Sophia Vaughn placed second in the 3200 meter run with a time of 12:42. She also placed fourth in the 1600 meter run with a time of 5:54.7

The Lady Pirates 400 meter relay team of Rachel Baergen, Aransas Blaha, Hannah Saegert, and Caitlyn Ramaker placed second with a time of 51.96.

Kaylee Howell was the area champion in high jump with a height of 5’. She was also second in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 16.25 and second in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 48.77.

Blaha was third in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.94.

The Lady Pirates 1600 meter relay team of Ashley Wells, Madison Dean, Ramaker, and Howell finished second with a time of 4:22.68.

Renee McKenzie was the area champion in shot put with a throw of 37’.

Mikey Dominguez was the area champion in pole vault with a height of 11’.

All members of both teams will advance to compete in the 4A Region IV track meet Friday, April 26 and Saturday, April 27 at Texas A&M University – Kingsville.
