Go for two

Alyssa Garcia jumps to the basket for a layup in the third quarter.

The Rockport-Fulton High School (RFHS) Lady Pirate basketball team played a highly contested game against the West Oso Lady Bears but could not pick up the much needed win, losing 34-32 Friday, Jan. 31 at home.

RFHS’ district record moves to 5-6 and its overall record 15-15.

After trailing by four at the half, the Lady Pirates played a fantastic third quarter that resulted in RFHS holding a six-point lead going into the final quarter of play. However, Oso fired back with its own explosive fourth quarter and stole the dire victory away from RFHS.

The loss puts RFHS in an unlikely situation to make the playoffs. Stuck in fifth place with a 5-6 district record, Beeville holds a commanding 11-0 record in first place. After Beeville; Sinton, Robstown, and West Oso all hold an 8-3 district record.

Kaylee Howell led RFHS in scoring with 11 points.

Jordan Malone scored 10 points and Lilith Solis finished with five points.

RFHS played Orange Grove Tuesday, Feb. 4. They play again at 6:15 p.m. Friday, Feb. 7 at Sinton.
