The Community Aquatic & Skate Park, in conjunction with the American Red Cross, will host a lifeguard training program in February and March at its facility, located at 2001 Stadium Dr.

Interested individuals should be able to complete a 300-yard swim doing the front crawl and breaststroke, and tread water for a minimum of two minutes using legs only.

Prior to enrolling in the class, individuals must complete a skills test of the criteria listed above, as well as a timed 20-yard swim and the retrieval of a weight from a 7-10 ft. depth. The skills tests will be held now until Feb. 27. Reservations must be made in advance and a $50 deposit is required.

Upon successful completion of the skills test, the individual may enroll in the class, which takes place from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 27; noon to 6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 28; 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, March 6; and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday, March 7.

The cost is $65 (ages 11-14) for Junior Lifeguard certification. Individuals 15 years of age or older will receive Lifeguard and CPR certification for $285.
