The Rockport-Fulton High School (RFHS) Pirate basketball team stayed the course for a district championship with its win over the Beeville Trojans 62-35 Tuesday, Feb. 11 at home.
RFHS’ district record improves to 11-1 with an overall record of 25-7.
RFHS remains in first place in District 31-4A. Sinton also remains one game behind RFHS in second place with a 9-2 district record. RFHS needs to win its final two district games to remain ahead.
In the first half, RFHS managed to only hold a small lead as Beeville generated some momentum in the second quarter. The RFHS defense eventually slowed down the Trojans and the Pirates took a 25-16 lead.
In the second half, RFHS took full control over Beeville and roared to a commanding lead. Beeville was held to just four points in the third quarter as RFHS dropped 18 to take a substantial 43-20 lead. As Cox continued to drive the paint and go 4-5 from the line in the fourth quarter, Chance Bates and Jeremy Hawkins also each hit a 3-point field goal to put the Trojans away.
Cox led RFHS in scoring with 24 points.
Konnor McMahon followed with 12 points and Bates scored seven points.
RFHS played Friday, Feb. 14 at Kingsville. Their last district game of the season is 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18 at home against Robstown.
