The Rockport-Fulton High School (RFHS) cross country team competed in the District 26-4A cross country meet Thursday, Oct. 29 in Ingleside.
The Lady Pirates won their third straight district title and placed four runners in the top 10.
RFHS Head Girls Cross County Coach Alvira Blue-Roberts said she was proud of the way her team persevered through the COVID-19 stricken season.
“With COVID-19, we didn’t think we were going to have a season,” said Blue-Roberts. “Then they said, ‘We’re going to have a season.’ And with the number of girls we had, I didn’t think we were going to have enough, but I am so proud with what they accomplished today.”
The Lady Pirates finished with a team score of 42. Beeville finished in second with a team score of 53.
Riley Parker was the Lady Pirates’ top runner, finishing in second place with a time of 12:46.
Marian Almada finished sixth with a time of 13:31.
Emilee Sturgeon finished ninth with a time of 13:46.
Angela Coronado finished 10th with a time of 13:55.
Jordan Garza finished 15th with a time of 14:34.
Laila Flowers finished 21st with a time of 14:57 and Hannah Burney finished 38th with a time of 16:17.
The varsity boy’s team finished in fifth place with a score of 113.
Ethan Powell was the boys’ top runner, finishing 16th with a time of 18:31.
Cason Langford, Isaiah Elizondo, Brody Karl, and Josiah Gonzalez also ran for the varsity boys team.
In the junior varsity division, Juan Elizondo placed third.
The Lady Pirates will advance to the Region IV cross country meet Tuesday, Sept. 10. They will run at 10 a.m. at the Dr. Jack A. Dugan Family Soccer and Track Stadium in Corpus Christi, 800 Nile Drive.
