The Rockport-Fulton High School (RFHS) Pirate baseball team took control early against the Miller Buccaneers in a 14-1 fifth inning run-rule victory Friday, April 9 at home.
RFHS’ district record is now 5-3, with an overall record of 13-8-1.
The Pirates got back in the win column after a tough one-run loss to Calhoun one week earlier.
Starting pitcher Luke Muirhead threw 47 pitches in three innings. He struck out five and walked two.
Ean McPherson relieved Muirhead and pitched the rest of the game. He struck out three and walked one.
After surrendering one run to Miller in the top of the first inning, RFHS roared back with eight runs in the bottom half and never looked back.
Miller was unable to score another run after the first inning. RFHS scored six more runs in the third inning to make it 14 total. McPherson held Miller at home plate for the next two innings.
The Pirates feasted off poor pitching from Miller. Altogether, Buccaneer pitchers walked 11 Pirate batters during the game.
Designated hitter Trent Upham led RFHS offensively, going 2-3 with four RBI’s.
Jordan Gibson was 2-2 with two RBI’s and scored twice. One of his hits forced an error at first base, which led to two more runners scoring from second and third.
Ace Seibert and Sam Mayes also recorded one RBI each.
RFHS’ next game is 7 p.m. Friday, April 16 at West Oso.
