The Rockport-Fulton High School (RFHS) Pirate basketball team lost to the Miller Buccaneers 64-31 Tuesday, Jan. 19 and defeated the Calhoun Sandcrabs 58-44 Thursday, Jan. 21 this past week.
RFHS’ win over the Sandcrabs completed the first round of district play. Currently, RFHS sits in fourth place in District 26-4A with a 3-3 district record. Their overall record stands at 9-10.
On Tuesday, RFHS faced a tough, state tanked team in Miller.
After hanging close with the Bucs through the first quarter, Miller got hot in the second quarter and exploded for 20 points against RFHS. It gave Miller a 32-18 lead at the half.
In the third quarter, RFHS struggled to create scoring opportunities and ended the quarter with only five points from Philip Krupa and Josh Lee.
In the fourth quarter, Miller went on another explosive run offensively for 22 points. RFHS scored only eight points, leaving Miller to run away with it 64-31.
Mathew Vasquez led RFHS in scoring with 14 points.
Mason Moon and Philip Krupa followed Vasquez with three points each.
On Thursday, RFHS traveled to Calhoun and picked up an important victory on a short turnaround, defeating the Sandcrabs 58-44.
RFHS’ next game will be an important home matchup with West Oso at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 26. West Oso is currently in third place in District 26-4A standings with a 4-2 district record.
