The Rockport-Fulton High School (RFHS) Pirate baseball team began the second half of their district season with a close 3-2 loss to the Calhoun Sandcrabs Thursday, April 1 at Calhoun.
RFHS’ district record is now 4-3, with an overall record of 12-8-1.
After opening the district season with a 6-2 loss to Calhoun at home, RFHS was looking for redemption. This time, the game went down to the wire as both teams entered the 7th inning tied at 2-2.
Starting pitcher Luke Muirhead pitched the whole game and threw 107 pitches. He struck out eight and allowed two earned runs.
Most of RFHS’ batting lineup was held in check with only three hits coming off Calhoun starting pitcher Dalton Alford.
Jordan Gibson scored both runs for RFHS. He was 1-2 with a walk.
Isaiah Elizondo and Muirhead had one hit and one RBI each.
Calhoun scored the game winning run in the bottom of the 7th inning on a ball hit into shallow centerfield with a runner on third.
The Pirates’ next game is 7 p.m. Friday, April 9 against Miller at home.
