The Rockport-Fulton High School (RFHS) Pirate baseball team went 1-1 over the weekend with an 11-6 win over Ingleside Friday, March 26 and a 1-0 loss at Sinton Monday, March 29.
RFHS’ district record is now 4-2, with an overall record of 12-7-1.
After the loss to first place Sinton, RFHS is now tied for second place in District 26-4A with Ingleside and Calhoun. Sinton remains undefeated in district play at 6-0.
The 11-6 victory over Ingleside was big for RFHS as it cemented them in second place in District 26-4A before their game against Sinton.
RFHS got a great performance on the mound from Luke Muirhead. He pitched six innings and allowed three earned runs, struck out 12, and walked one. He was also 2-3 at bat with three RBI’s.
RFHS’ other big offensive contributions came from Trent Upham and Sam Mayes.
Mayes was 2-3 with two RBI’s.
Upham was 1-3 with two RBI’s and one walk.
Despite the loss, RFHS put on a great showing against Sinton, a consensus top-3 ranked team in Texas 4A baseball.
Sinton’s lone run was unearned. The run was scored due to an error committed in left field in the first inning.
Starting pitcher Carsen Flores had a huge night on the mound. He allowed six hits, struck out six, and allowed 0 earned runs in 92 pitches.
The RFHS offense struggled to get on base. Third base was reached only twice through seven innings.
Upham led RFHS offensively with a double going 1-2.
Ace Seibert and Ean McPherson also had one hit each.
RFHS will play their next district game at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 1 in Calhoun.
