Great catch

Lydia Zavala snags an out in centerfield.

The Rockport-Fulton High School (RFHS) Lady Pirate softball team (#1) laid it on the Miller Lady Bucs with 17 hits that accounted for 18 runs in a three inning run-rule victory Tuesday, March 9 at Cabaniss Field.

RFHS is now 13-1 with a 2-0 district record.

Siarah Galvan started the game at pitcher for RFHS but was relieved after one inning. Jordan Hall and Kymberlyn Gerloff finished the game in the second and third innings, respectively. Altogether, they pitched a no hitter.

It was a windy day at Cabaniss Field and numerous Lady Bucs had a hard time tracking the bombs RFHS hit to the outfield.

After scoring two runs in the first inning, RFHS exploded in the second inning with 13 runs. RFHS scored 10 straight runs in the inning before Miller recorded their first out. The flurry of hits came off the bats of Maddie Mann, Emma Groseclose Krystal Kutach, Payton Martinez, Alana Garcia, and Galvan.

Mann nearly hit the cycle, recording a double, triple, and a home run. In all, she was 3-3 at-bat with four RBI’s.

Martinez also hit an inside-the-park-homerun in the third inning on a deep shot to the left field gap.

RFHS will resume district play following Spring Break at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 16 at home against West Oso.
