The Rockport-Fulton High School varsity (RFHS) Pirate and Lady Pirate track teams competed in the 26-4A District track meet Wednesday and Thursday, April 7-8 in Port Lavaca.

The Lady Pirates won their third straight district title since 2018, not including 2020 (COVID-19). They placed first with 143 points, defeating second place Ingleside with 111 points and third place Sinton with 105 points.

RFHS Head Girls Track Coach David Rice said an exceptional first day put them in position to win it on day two.

“We were only eight points behind after field events on day one,” said Rice. “So we were set up, we just had to perform today. And the kids went out and competed really hard. I’m really proud of them. They’re a great bunch of kids to be around.”

The Pirates saw their streak of four straight district titles end with a second place finish. They tallied 143 points, second to district champion Ingleside with 161 points.

RFHS Head Boys Track Coach Joe Medrano said he was proud of the way his athletes competed, but added not having a presence in distance races hurt them in the end.
