Run like the wind

Emilee Sturgeon and Riley Parker lead the pack as the varsity girls race begins to veer into the first turn.

The Rockport-Fulton High School (RFHS) Pirate cross country team competed in a home varsity meet Saturday, Oct. 10 at Rockport Beach Park.

The Lady Pirates varsity team won the meet with 30 points, defeating second place Calallen with 35 points.

Four Lady Pirates placed in the top 10.

Riley Parker finished second with a time of 14:23, Marian Almada finished third with a time of 14:50, Emilee Sturgeon finished fourth with a time of 15:15, and Angela Coronado finished ninth with a time of 15:58.

Hannah Burney, Jordan Garza, Laila Flowers, and Laura Macha rounded out the rest of the scoring.

The Pirates did not field a full team, but competed with four runners.

Cason Langford finished as the Pirates’ top runner in 12th place with a time of 23:10.

Isaiah Elizondo, Josiah Gonzalez, and Brody Karl also competed.

The teams’ next meet will be Saturday, Oct. 17 at George West.
