The Rockport-Fulton High School (RFHS) Lady Pirate softball team (#1) defeated the Brazosport Lady Exporters in two games by a combined score of 25-0 in the Bi-District round this past weekend.
RFHS defeated Brazosport 14-0 in game one Thursday, April 29 in Tidehaven.
Game two was played Saturday, May 1 in Beeville due to adverse weather. RFHS defeated Brazosport again 11-0.
RFHS improves its overall record to 25-1.
After defeating Brazosport in game one, RFHS had to wait another day and change venues to play game two due to poor weather conditions.
It took a bit longer for the Lady Pirates to get going offensively in game two compared to game one, but RFHS prevailed with a near-perfect game pitched by Siarah Galvan and timely at-bats in the third and sixth innings.
“We started a little too anxious I think. We weren’t really letting the ball get there,” said RFHS Head Softball Coach Melissa Reyes. “Once they settled down and locked in, they started making good contact, putting the ball in play a lot better.”
Galvan brought in the first runs of the game on a 2 RBI-double in the bottom of the third inning. Krystal Kutach followed with another score. RFHS ended the inning up 5-0.
Brazosport’s defense kept RFHS from scoring in bunches in the next two innings as they trailed 8-0 after five innings. Galvan, Payton Martinez, and Mikey Dominguez all brought in runners in the 4th and 5th innings.
In the sixth inning, RFHS brought in three more runs and scored the game winner due to an error committed by Brazosport’s first baseman, allowing RFHS’ runner on third to walk home for the score.
RFHS will play a one-game series against La Vernia in the area round. The game is 7 p.m. Friday, May 7 in Beeville.
