With the start of virtual learning last week for the Aransas County Independent School District, so was the start to Fulton Learning Center’s (FLC) school year long event in recycling aluminum cans.

FLC science teacher Martha McLeod reported more than 480 pounds of aluminum cans were recycled by students in only the first week of collection.

The top three recyclers in each grade level are as follows, along with their amount recycled in pounds (lbs.):

• Fifth grade

1. DeAndre Stribling - 82.5 lbs.

2. Levi Thornberry - 47.5 lbs.

3. Caleb Bandy - 25 lbs.

• Fourth grade

1. Kayleigh McCall - 81 lbs.

2. MacKenzie Montemayor - 51 lbs.

3. Everett Gambill - 45 lbs.

• Third grade

1. Kayden Tran - 18.5 lbs.

FLC students will have until Friday, April 23, 2021 to donate.

The top five recyclers in each grade level are rewarded with a field trip near the end of the school year.

Last school year, the FLC science program was unable to plan the trip due to COVID-19.
