Students at Fulton Learning Center (FLC) recycled more than 8,000 pounds of metals throughout the 2021-22 school year during the annual Aluminum Can and Scrap Metal Recycling contest. The top recyclers were recently announced in each grade level.
Each time a student recycles metals, they get to babysit a lab animal over the weekend with parental permission. The top metal recyclers get treated to a reward field trip at the end of the year to the Natural Bridge Caverns, Sea World, or Fiesta Texas. This year the students traveled to the Natural Bridge Caverns. Funds generated from the program pay for all reward field trip costs. Funds generated from recycling support the many garden and animal programs the science department sponsors.
“It is important for our students to understand the importance of recycling and how it benefits the environment by saving valuable landfill space,” said FLC metal recycling program sponsor Martha McLeod.
The top five metal recyclers in each grade level are as follows:
1st place aluminum – Wyatt Littleton (376 lbs.)
