The Fulton Learning Center (FLC) birding team took a practice field trip to the Rockport Beach Park Saturday, Dec. 10.
Students worked as teams in one hour shifts for small group practice while walking the shorelines and then riding in a small bus. All groups accounted for a total of more than 35 bird species on the trip.
The students used camera equipment funded by the “Picture Me” grant from the Aransas County Independent School District Education Foundation to take high quality pictures of birds they identify during the trip. The grant was written by FLC Birding team sponsor Martha McLeod.
“The Brown Pelicans and seagulls were happy to pose for us today so all of the kids in attendance could get great pictures,” said McLeod.
McLeod was able to give each student a memory card to use for their pictures to take home and edit them if needed. The best pictures will be printed onto canvas prints.
The students were allowed free entry into the beach park by Aransas County Navigation District Harbormaster Keith Barrett.
Students participating were Sam Lynch, Logann Wood, Kam Alston, Braden Almond, Pasquale Dominguez, Haidyn Garcia, Bryant Manning, Kennedi Johnson, Ella Buckley, Bradford Brundrett, Karson Skinner, Hollis Weems, Benji Hale, Mamie Alston, Brianna Hill, Ryland Wood, Ben Almond, and Will Lynch.
