Ben Almond, top, explains the strength of his bridge to Logan Burton, right.

Aransas County Independent School District (ACISD) alumnus, current ACISD school board member and local civil engineer Logan Burton visited Martha McLeod’s elementary engineering class Wednesday, Oct. 19 at Fulton Learning Center.

Students were completing their unit of study in civil engineering by designing and constructing bridges.   Wednesday was the culmination of their unit of study where students tallied their bridge cost score of material costs, stability score using toy cars, and strength score using weights to get an overall design score. Three teams of students tied for an overall first place score.    Burton was invited to observe the students’ designs and give both positive and negative critiques of their bridges. Students listened to his advice for improvements on their scores and what they need to study in the future to become a civil engineer like him.
