Live Oak Learning Center (LOLC) is currently hosting a public book drive to benefit elementary schools in Costa Rica, The Bahamas, and Puerto Rico with the gift of reading.

The book drive is called, “Fill Santa’s Sack with the Gift of Reading.”

The drive began Friday, Dec. 6 and will continue until Thursday, Dec. 19.

LOLC will have drop off sites located throughout the school and in the library. If one is interested in purchasing a book or donating money for a book, they can do so at the schools’ book fair from Friday, Dec. 6 until Friday, Dec.13.

Students will be involved as well by donating books and by coloring book markers and writing messages of encouragement.

There are also two Friday’s in December in which teachers and staff will be wearing Santa hats and Christmas headbands to highlight the book drive. Many teachers and staff will be wearing costumes the morning of Friday, Dec. 19th to add joy around the school and celebrate the success of the drive.

LOLC formed a committee and decided a book drive would best spread the love of reading. After receiving many wonderful book donations after Hurricane Harvey, the school wants to return the favor that was given to them by helping other communities in need. LOLC Principal Robin Rice has always encouraged teachers and staff to advocate for literacy at LOLC.
