The Aransas County Retired Teachers Association (ACRTA), a local Texas Retired Teachers Association (TRTA) affiliate, used an award received in April 2022 to give back to the community.
The ACRTA won the TRTA President’s Diamond Award, awarding the organization $1,500. It is the highest award given to only one local chapter in the state.
They voted to distribute their earnings amongst various organizations in Aransas County to enhance the programs helping Aransas County youth, both educationally and socially.
Organizations receiving distributions from this award were the Texas Maritime Museum (TMM), the Children’s Coalition of Aransas County, the Aransas County Independent School District (ACISD), and the ACISD Education Foundation.
The TMM’s distribution was a bench to be used in the museum by the patrons visiting, as well as children who attend their camps. The remaining distributions were monetary.
