Dear editor,

The Saturday issue of the Rockport Pilot had a photo of the new pier with the caption “Amenities sought for well-used pier”. My wife and I used to be regulars on the ole’ pier back 15-20 years ago. It always irked me that the ole’ pier did not have a fish cleaning station. Very inconvenient to not have a place to clean your catch after a long night’s fishing. I wrote letters to your paper to no avail. Perhaps the officials in Fulton did not want fish carcasses floating up along the sea wall.

Now we have a new $1.9 million replacement pier that folks can enjoy. All that money and still no fish cleaning table. A fish cleaning station on the T-head of the pier would reduce carcasses along the sea wall. Many of the people fishing on the pier come from out of town. Who knows where they clean their catch, although many use the floor and benches on the pier. Few know of the fish cleaning stations at the beach or Cove Harbor. If there is not going to be a fish cleaning station at the pier at least there could be some signs directing people to the nearest appropriate location to clean their catch!
