• Construction/remodeling at several Aransas County Independent School District (ACISD) campuses, including the new ACISD Auditorium, was winding down. The work was made possible through a $3.5 million bond issue.
• Aransas County Navigation District (ACND) commissioners addressed complaints about speeding motorists around Rockport and Fulton harbors by approving placing warning signs in the area and purchasing traffic cones to put out when shrimpers stretched their nets across the roads.
• A district judge ruled against the ACND, saying ACND Commissioner Kirk Holman could continue to serve in his position. Other ACND commissioners were trying to have Holman removed from office because he owned Fulton Harbor Bait Stand, and held a lease with the ACND. ACND attorney Reese Rozzell held that Holman was in conflict of interest.
• The City of Rockport was addressing drainage issues around the new Walmart (now Ace Hardware) and the proposed Harbor Oaks Village Shopping Center.
• Bill Christian unveiled his vision for a new Texas Maritime Museum to be located in the area of downtown Rockport.

30 years ago this week
• State assistance for local shrimpers due to decreases in brown shrimp populations caused by low salinity in area bays from spring rains was denied.
• The Rockport City Council approved the installation of flashing school zone lights in several areas on and near Business SH 35.
• Rockport-Fulton High School (RFHS) students and some teachers sent letters to RFHS Principal Will McDonald criticizing the coverage by major Corpus Christi media of the Pirate’s first district championship in football.
• The RFHS Pirates football team won its first playoff game, a bi-district win against Jourdanton. Running back Daniel Vasquez rushed for 391 yards, according to Head Coach Bob Pyssen.
• The USS Lexington official opened as a museum.
• Due to growth, mail delivered to the Rockport Post office got a new zip code – 78381.
20 years ago this week
• The ACISD Education Foundation kickoff dinner for its Legacy Fund Drive netted $55,000.
• Members of the public told the Rockport City Council issues with the offset intersection at Business SH 35 and Colorado Street needed to be addressed before Walmart built its new superstore.
• The City of Rockport increased water rates 15%, which was a pass-though expense from the San Patricio Municipal Water District.
• Msgr. Louis F. Kihneman III celebrated this 25th anniversary of priesthood.
• The development of Whistler’s Cove subdivision was underway, as was construction on Lighthouse Inn and Suites.
10 years ago this week
• The historical marker for the Baldwin-Brundrett House was dedicated.
• Duane Scheumack and his daughter Julainne Scheumack Mills ran their fourth half marathon together at the San Antonio Rock ‘N’ Roll Marathon and Half Marathon.
