Dear editor:

Someone sent me a text today saying Rockport was named No. 2 Best Coastal Small Town (less than 25,000 population) in the United States by USA Today.

I hope that’s true! I just would like to thank the people in charge of this town. That is quite an honor.

I was also looking at the date The Rockport Pilot was started and the date is 1869, which means y’all have been printing a paper for the last 150 years. So thank you for that! I’m a regular subscriber and new to Rockport.

So then I noticed on the City of Rockport trucks the date is 1870. According to my high math ability, that makes Rockport 150 years old!

Is that correct? If so, wow!

Sincerely,

Sue Rienhardt

(Editor’s note: the ages of the newspaper and its predecessors, as well as the City of Rockport, are correct.)
