Diane Sturm Austin, dearly loved by family and friends, died peacefully at home in Rockport on October 21, 2019. She was 88. Born in Los Angeles on September 1, 1931 to Andrew and Lorena Sturm, she grew up in North Hollywood, California, where she met and married Bob Austin in 1950. They were married 68 years. She was preceded in death by both her husband Bob and her older sister Barbara whom she was very close to. She is survived by her daughter Dr. Alison Walls, her son John Austin and her grandchildren Kevin Elrod and Hailey Austin, her great-granddaughter Aira Teller, and Diane’s beloved rescue dog Dudley.
Diane is remembered for her creative needlework masterpieces, her love of dogs and her contagious sense of humor. Her grandson claimed that when she cooked it tasted like there was love in every bite. She was caring, kind and articulate. Since Bob worked for Pan Am, they traveled in style for six decades. Diane and Bob retired in their beloved Rockport in 1994. Diane volunteered as a Chamber Charmer and as the volunteer coordinator for Good Samaritan, committed to serving the community they loved. Diane and Bob are together at rest in Rockport Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Diane requested donations to the Rockport Fulton Humane Society.
