Dr. Thomas R. McKinley, M.D., 92, passed away Wednesday, December 7, 2011 after a sudden illness. He was born November 2, 1919 in Kirksville, Missouri to Dr. Carrol and Ruth Ridenour McKinley. He was educated at Valley Forge Military Academy, United States Military Academy in West Point, NY, Texas A&M University College Station and graduated in 1951 from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas.
Dr. McKinley served in WWII as an Air Force B-26 Marauder Pilot, flying 65 missions in the European Theater of Operations. He was awarded the Air Medal with two Bronze and two Silver Clusters, a Distinguished Flying Cross and a European Theater of Operations Ribbon with four Battle Stars. Following graduation from medical school, he joined the Navy and became a Naval Aviator-Flight Surgeon and qualified in all types of military aircraft. He practiced medicine in the Houston area for 27 years. Dr. McKinley was one of the original founders of Pasadena Bayshore Hospital in Pasadena, Texas in 1962. He moved to Rockport and practiced medicine from 1981 through March 1997.
His parents and brother, John George McKinley preceded him in death. Dr. McKinley is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Ann Claudette McKinley of Rockport; daughters, Melody Stokes (Richard) of Austin, Texas, Deborah Williams (Howard) of Driftwood, Texas; son, Christopher K. Brown of Denver, Colorado; grandchildren, Patrick, Benjamin and Matthew Stokes, Teren, Marly and Forrest Williams and Nicholas and Amanda Brown.
Visitation was held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Friday, December 9, 2011 at Charlie Marshall Funeral Home, Rockport. Funeral Services will be conducted at 10 a.m., Saturday, December 10, 2011 at First Presbyterian Church in Rockport with interment to follow at Rockport Cemetery.
