Roy James “Beanbag” Gurley, 64, went to be with the Lord on Friday October 29, 2021. Roy was born on June 26, 1957, to parents James C. Gurley and Lois Mae Gurley in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Roy is preceded in death by his father, James C. Gurley.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving family; mother, Lois M Gurley, his sisters: Cyndy (David) Tuorila and Trisha (Royce) Harrell; brother, Darren (Jo Ann) Gurley; 11 nieces and nephews and numerous great nieces and nephews.

Roy was born in Corpus Christi, TX and was a lifelong resident of Rockport. He graduated from Rockport-Fulton High School. Roy spent many years working for the Aransas County Navigation District before heading over to work for the Town of Fulton, were he retired due to a Parkinson’s diagnoses. Roy was a long-time member of the Rockport Fire Department.

Roy was a kind and generous man. A gentle giant that would give you anything he had if he thought you needed it. Roy was an avid CB’er back in the day and so many people knew him by his CB handle “Beanbag”. He loved people (especially the girls) and he loved the Fulton Oysterfest. He loved dancing and beer. He grew up dancing at “Lillian’s Danceland” and was the best “two-step” partner around.
