Athalia Maye Williamson Hardy, 93, of Rockport, TX passed away on Saturday, March 6, 2021 in Corpus Christi, TX. She was born on February 8, 1928 to William Kelly Williamson and Ella Daly Tower Williamson.
Athalia was a long-time resident of the Rockport-Fulton area and was an avid square dancer for many years. She, alongside her husband, Richard “Blackie” Hardy (a caller) and many of their dear square dance friends, built the original Paws and Taws building back in 1964/1965. The building housed both the original Paws and Taws and the current Ocean Waves groups, both of which were founded by the Hardys and multiple other local families (including, but not limited to Buck and Louise Bolen, Bill and Lou Dick, Ed and Louise Drummond, JC and Lois Gurley, Chuck and Johnnie Vermillion and Burl and Juanita Wagley). We can only imagine the celebration that is occurring with them all together again.
Athalia was also a long-time docent at the Fulton Mansion, years after an early retirement as a draftsman for Humble Oil in Corpus Christi, TX. She was fiercely independent, outspoken and a huge lover of animals.
Athalia (Granny to her family) was preceded in death by her husband Blackie and their daughter, Margaret Elaine “DeeDee” Hardy Dick.
She is survived by four granddaughters, Brittney Powlesson, Kelly Mayfield, Ashley Lankford and Kate Pahls, along with Chris, Casey and Michael. She is also survived by seven beautiful great grandchildren: Alex, Taylor and Britton Mayfield; Audrey and Addy Bonine; and Gatlin and Millie Lankford, as well as half-siblings James Williamson and Diane Clarke and their families.
Athalia was laid to rest in a private service on Saturday, March 13, 2021, in Fulton, TX.
